America's Favorite Candy
Sweets have always been a favorite of children for years and none more than the Jolly Rancher candy classic. All have good memories of this sweet fruity hard, however you may be surprised to learn that its history goes back much further than first thought!
The candy was introduced for the first time since the founding of the company Jolly Rancher in 1949. The company was founded in Golden, Colorado a couple named Bill and Dorothy Harmsen. It is believed that the motivation behind the company name was suggested that a family business in western hospitals. The approach original was not originally in hard candy as the company originally for the manufacture of chocolate, ice cream and candy that were sold in several local stores in the Denver area. The hard candy sales grew significantly in the next two years to the point where Jolly Rancher became the main focus of the company's continued abd in the development and expansion of its line of hard candy.
As sales increased in 1951 took the decision to move production Factory Gold Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The success of Jolly Ranchers continued to grow with the company of food sold to Beatrice in 1966. Seventeen years then was sold to Beatrice Foods Leaf International, a leading European manufacturer of candy which was founded about 10 years prior to the Jolly Rancher Company. Decades following two important events were recorded at the Jolly Rancher brand with the first was in 1996 when Hershey bought the North American subsidiary of the road, including Jolly Rancher candy brands. Hershey decided to diversify and create variations of the original Hard Candy.
A year after the initial purchase, sugar-free versions the originals were made hard candy, jelly beans and Jolly Ranchers soft. The range has been improved again in 1999 with a change in the formula to be intensified the flavor of the fruit.
At the turn of the millennium Hershey began to introduce more products with fruit chew candies into production in 2001 chewy candy fruit and putting them into production shortly thereafter. The range of flavors was expanded in 2002 with the introduction of blue raspberry candies.
