Food Festivals in Umbria – tasty and fun

Umbria is in many ways the most rural of regions of Italy. It may be less visited and less influx of tourists, that other parts of Italy (as Tuscany), but there is no shortage of excitement with year-round festivals and special events. Food really matters in Umbria and festivals are held throughout the year celebrating the unique tastes and pleasures of the products and cuisine of Umbria.
A festival of food known as the Sagra (Sagre plural) and the best are small and the conclusion of a single dish. You will often see brightly colored posters advertising them on the road.
Here is a summary of some of the festivals of the region throughout the year dedicated to food and wine.
Black Truffle Fair Norcia – mid to late February
More truffles are found in Umbria than anywhere else in Italy and Umbria is especially famous for black truffles. Gourmets they consider lower than the white variety, but actually expensive and delicious. The truffle fair is held annually in the town of Norcia in the south-east of Umbria. Norcia is also famous for their meat products such as Parma ham which compares well with that of Milan.
Cantine Aperte – late May
For the open call Bodegas Wine some of the biggest producers of wine from Umbria and small open their cellars to visitors. In its 15th year this important event offers visitors the opportunity to taste the wines of Umbria Umbrian including some who like to keep to themselves!
Citta di Castello Mussel Festival – July 3 weeks
Tressler tables were set up outside the city walls and outdoor cooking is to prepare the seafood. At least a ton of mussels be eaten during the festival.
Passignano sul Trasimeno Fish Fry – on Sunday July
The biggest festival in the pan in the world to offer in the picturesque largest Lake in Umbria. There is also a boat race.
Celebration of "Made in Italy" – in early October
This nine-day event held in Orvieto duration each year, celebrates the wine and gastronomic tradition of the 'Made in Italy brand. " The prestigious event, held since 1996, when the 'Slow Food' movement had its first major meeting in the city of Umbria. The event includes lectures within the beautiful museums and historic monuments, food tasting, art exhibitions and themed dinners.
Preggio Chestnut Festival – Mid-October
Every room in the basement of the old houses in the open city as botteghe small restaurants with varied menus including chestnuts dishes with roasted chestnuts. Local artisans display their crafts.
Eurochocolate – In mid-October
When in Perugia you can visit the Perugina chocolate factory at any time, but at the end of October the whole town turns into chocolate heaven for 8 days with tastings, demonstrations chocolate cooking and other themed events. In recent years there has been a reconstruction of the Berlin Wall (of chocolate) and chocolate test.
Frantoio Aperti – Early November
Frantoio Aperti The festival, taking place during the first weekend in November, sees the doors open several olive oil presses around Umbria offering visitors the chance to talk to producers, to see how you extract the olive oil and attend seminars and tastings tours, and learn the secrets of the Mediterranean diet! Many farms and restaurants also participate in the festival by adding olive oil quality dishes.
Truffle Fair of Citta di Castello – in late October and early November
Welcomes the white truffle (see up for the black truffle festival!)
National Show and Gubbio Truffle Market – The weekend of October to 1 November Stands are set the historic center of this ancient city and the famous truffle presented in every possible way. Also cheeses, jams, honey and local spirits.
